If you bought Wawa Iced Tea Lemon, Iced Tea Diet Lemon, Diet Lemonade, or Fruit Punch in a 16 oz bottle at Wawa stores in PA, DE, MD, NJ, or VA, check the code date printed on the bottom. If it reads May 15, 16, 17, 18, or 19, 2026, throw it away immediately. Do not drink it if you have a milk allergy or any dairy sensitivity.
The short version: Wawa recalled four bottled drinks on April 3, 2026, after a temporary equipment problem at its bottling facility may have allowed milk to get into beverages where it doesn't belong — and where it was never listed on the label. That's dangerous for anyone with a milk allergy, because they'd have no way of knowing the drink could trigger a reaction.
What Was Recalled and Why
The four products pulled from Wawa stores are all 16 oz bottled drinks sold at a limited number of locations in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and Virginia:
- Wawa Iced Tea Lemon — code date May 15, 2026
- Wawa Iced Tea Diet Lemon — code date May 18, 2026
- Wawa Diet Lemonade — code date May 18, 2026
- Wawa Fruit Punch — code date May 19, 2026
Wawa says the problem came from a temporary equipment issue at its beverage facility. At some point during production, milk — which is used in some of Wawa's other drinks — may have contaminated these four products. Because milk is a major food allergen, the FDA requires it to be clearly listed on labels. These bottles weren't labeled that way, which is why they had to be pulled.
How Serious Is This?
For most people, accidentally getting a little milk in a drink is a minor issue at worst. But for someone with a true milk allergy, it's a different story entirely. Newsweek described the potential reaction as "life-threatening." A severe allergic reaction to milk can cause anaphylaxis — a full-body response that includes throat swelling, difficulty breathing, a rapid drop in blood pressure, and, in serious cases, can be fatal without immediate treatment.
Even people with a milder dairy intolerance (like lactose intolerance) could experience stomach cramps, nausea, and other discomfort from drinking one of these products. The important thing is that there was no way for affected consumers to know this risk existed just by reading the label.
As of the recall date, Wawa had not received any reports of illness connected to these products, which is good news — but recalls are designed to prevent harm before it happens.
What Should You Do
- Check the code date on the bottom of the bottle. The code date is printed on the base. If it falls within the May 15–19, 2026 range listed above, your drink is part of this recall.
- Throw it away or return it for a refund. Wawa is offering a full refund in the form of a Wawa Gift Card. You can contact Wawa through their website at wawa.com/iframe/contact or by calling their 24-hour customer service line at 1-800-444-9292.
- If you already drank it and you have a milk allergy, watch for any signs of an allergic reaction. If you have trouble breathing, throat tightening, hives, or feel faint, call 911 immediately.
- If you already drank it and had no reaction, you're likely fine — but it's still worth reporting to Wawa so they have a full picture of how many affected bottles reached consumers.
Could This Lead to Legal Action?
Food and beverage recalls like this one sometimes lead to personal injury cases, especially when someone was actually harmed. If you or someone in your family had an allergic reaction after drinking one of these recalled Wawa products — whether it meant a trip to the emergency room, an EpiPen use, or something that disrupted your life — you may have options.
A lawyer can review what happened at no cost to you. You do not need to have suffered a life-threatening emergency to ask the question. Even significant discomfort or a medical visit can be worth discussing.
